James Webster is of Maori and European descent, residing in Aotearoa / New Zealand. His tribal affiliations are Tainui, Te Arawa and Pākeha. He is based in Kapanga, Coromandel Town. He is the owner, operator of Tahaa, Tāmoko Studio and Maori Arts.

He has been a dedicated and passionate artist in the arts industry for over 30 years. As a freelance multi-disciplined artist, his extensive experience spans various fields, including intricate carving of bone, stone, and wood, expressive painting, and innovative mixed-media creations.

Specializing in tā moko (Māori tattoo), James creates meaningful and culturally rich tattoo art. His expertise extends to karetao māori (Māori puppetry), where he brings traditional stories and characters to life.
Additionally, James is a skilled maker and player of Taonga Pūoro (Māori musical instruments), collaborating closely with the Haumanu Collective to preserve and promote the rich musical heritage of Māori culture.
